Frit Testing
I saw the multitudes of frit offerings that Robin from Glass Diversionshad to offer and I just couldn't resist! I will post my results on this page when time permits so check back for more!

Note: I have reorganized this page so that it loads quicker. Please click on the photos below for larger versions.

Mocha Sundae - I tried this frit over white, turquoise and yellow opal. I didn't save the results from these tests because I couldn't figure out which was which when the beads cooled. I do, however, like this frit over good old white with a layer of clear over top! The brown and yellow hues really stand out nicely. As a surface decoration, this frit looks dark brown and encased it is more tan with brown hues.

Fall Harvest - This frit looks so earthy! Even over periwinkle the earth tones really come through. They're not as defined on periwinkle and sage as they are against the yellow opal or the white as you can see from the photos shown here. Click on the photo on the left to see a larger view for comparison.

Tapestry - I tried this frit when I wasn't prepared to sit and do a whole lot with it. I do like how it looks against soft pink though! The mauve color in it really looks nice on pink and the dark teal color pops right out there. White based beads look similar but the pink really gives a nice extra hue that is needed. Its a nice smoooooooth frit!

Bordeaux - There are just LOTS of pink and purple bits in this frit that are just dying to be melted! Its a nice smooth fun frit to play with. It looks so good over white and I am thinking soft pink will maybe hide a little of the pink tones in this frit. I'll have to give it a try though and post those results too.

Autumn Leaves (Intense Transparent)
- I used pale lavender blue transparent when I made these beads. I didn't want to go with white or pink as I usually do with this type of frit. In the end, I had pink looking beads anyway. Just goes to show, you don't know what you will get until the bead has cooled.

Exotic
- This frit had me thinking I would end up with a more deeper green mixed in with a luxurious pink. However, once they cooled, I see mostly a goldish green mixed with the pink. As soon as I annealed them though, they turned even darker on me. The greenish gold turned a deep dark brown. I guess this is a striking frit? I wasn't expecting that and I sure like the before anneal look much better! Oh well, can't like all frits right?

T
ie-Dye -
I just LOVE this frit! Its so bright and cool. It definitely looks like the 60's tie dyed colors you would see on a tie-dyed tee shirt. Like totally!! I used white for the base bead, rolled each in Tie Dye frit and spiral wrapped each in clear.

Twilight - (Reduction)
I did use this frit as intended and put the beads in a reducing flame. However, I don't really care for that effect. Besides, I'm not good at achieving the effect so most of my reduced beads are black. Instead, I left these beads "as is". I found that the beautiful purplish color really is sharp! I encased a few and spiraled a few. Click the photo for a photo of both versions. The encased ones looked like little worlds. I used pearl gray for the base bead for both methods.

Monet - These beads were made with sky blue as the base. I made these lentils with the little pink rosettes and then made some round beads with clear spiral wrap. I also used this frit over white and over 256 pink. I liked all three as a base color but I can only find a photo for the sky blues. Click on the photo for a larger view and to see the round version of these beads.

Mountain Fern- I wanted to see how turquoise would react with it since I love turquoise. I started out with a vetrofond pale ivory bead rolled in Mountain Fern frit and I made little "veins" of turquoise over each lentil and I think the effect was perfect. I also encased this frit using the turquoise as a little wavy line down the middle of my base bead. Click the photo to see the results of that and a larger version of these beads.

Jazzy Jewels
- The combination of rich blue/violet mixed with the perfect shade of emerald green. Truly jewels to be admired! This chunky frit is great!! I used it over periwinkle for this set, however I'm sure it would look very similar over sky blue.

Pretty In Pink (Intense/Transparent) I made these beautiful beads using white as the base. I rolled each bead in Pretty In Pink frit and decorated with black spiral wraps. I liked this bright pink so much that I decided to make a set of lentils. Pastel colors really stand out nicely against the fushia pink background that the frit provided. I like the way this frit spread out so nicely! Try it over pink for an even prettier shade.

Pansy Petals I like this frit for the way it reacts with turquoise, sky blue and different shades of coral. I haven't tried putting yellow over it yet but I'm sure it will react the same way. I rolled periwinkle beads in the Pansy Petal frit and then decorated with the above colors. Fascinating reaction!! Fun too. :)

Island Pink
I used this frit over white. This frit sort of reminds me of peppermint candy ice cream. I know, here I go with food again! Well, look at them and tell me you don't see the crunchy candy in that yummy ice cream. Just so you don't think my mind is always on food, click the photo for a larger image and see what else I made with this frit. Both sets are over white.

Cinnamon Spice I just LOVE the colors in this frit!! I rolled each pale ivory bead in Cinnamon Spice frit and drizzled each bead with a little contrasting black and then lentilized them. The beads below were made by rolling pink beads in the Cinnamon Spice frit and then wrapping them in clear spirals. I tried this frit over yellow opal but didn't notice much difference at all. There is just enough gold color mixed in with this frit to really pull off the cinnamon appeal.

Safari
This is my absolute favorite frit! It just blends so smooooooth! I used white as the base bead for this frit. After I made this set of spiral wrapped beads, I made more safari frit beads without the wrap and added them to my safari bead set. They go perfect with tiger stripes!! I tried encasing a bead just to show you what that looks like. Click on the photo for an example of that.

Sunglow (Some Reduction)
I found that if I didn't reduce this frit, it stays out a natural earthy color when used over vetrofond pale ivory. Over white, the yellows stand out a bit more. I like the way this frit almost resembles raku when used over ivory. It really reacts well with ivory. When I used it over white, the lines you see around the edges of the frit weren't as defined. I suppose its all a matter of personal preference as to which you prefer. I think this color would look good with yellow opal but might blend in a little bit with the base bead color.

Hawaiian Sunset (intense/transparent)
I used sky blue for the base bead and then wrapped each bead in clear spirals. Personally, I think beads made with this frit can "stand alone" in a design even without the spirals. The spirals just add a little spirit to the beads. Try this frit over white or even yellow opal!

Robin's Egg (opaque)
These beads were made by rolling Robin's Egg frit over Vetrofond pale ivory. I wrapped the bead with clear spirals just for a little added accent. You might try adding some beads like this to a set of sage and straw colored beads for a nice touch of color to that neutral combination. Robin's egg also looks great on yellow opal. Robin's egg frit over white brings out the blue color!

Celestial (mostly transparent) - Alex made these beads using Celestial frit over Lauscha clear glass. He used the hex press from Cattwalk to get the great shape. I will try this frit over a couple more colors and post the results here soon.

Coffee Bean (mostly opaque) The spiral wrapped beads in this set were created with Vetrofond light ivory rolled in Coffee Bean frit. I added straw spirals just for a little bit of accent. This frit has enough golden color to it that it would look great with a set of safari type beads or tiger stripes. Of course, if you are like me and just think coffee......

Orange Blossom (intense/transparent)
The encased beads in this set were made with Orange Blossom frit. I tried this frit over ivory and you could still see the orange in it but I got sidetracked and started playing around with encasing it instead just to see what it would look like. I like the results! The frit encases very well! I didn't have any beads crack with the Lauscha clear over top. I was in a coffee mood already so I made marmalade to go on my toast. :o)
